Natural Guide to Pregnancy

  1. Try alternatives to tea and coffee that are caffeine-free and healthy.
  2. Drink at least two litres of water a day and invest in a water filter for your home.
  3. Kiss goodbye to alcohol, cigarettes, soft drinks and any form of unnatural sugar substitute.
  4. Eat a diet full of fresh, whole foods that have come from the earth.
  5. Try to eliminate packaged foods and all preservatives, colours and additives.
  6. Eat whole grains; brown rice, wholemeal bread and pasta.
  7. If vegetarian make sure you have good protein sources with each meal.
  8. Choose organic/bio- dynamic fruit and vegetables where possible.
  9. Are you wheat and/or diary intolerant? Try alternatives. Free range, organic meats and eggs are best, find a supplier, or ask your local butcher to stock these healthy alternatives.
  10. Eat at least five or more portions of fruit/vegetables a day.
  11. See a Naturopath for overall health and vitality.
  12. Supplement with a good multivitamin and fish oils each day.
  13. Exercise: yoga, swimming and walking are recommend whilst pregnant.
  14. Eat plenty of colourful foods, naturally.
  15. Assess your plastic use at home. Change to non-plastic drinking bottles. Check for 3, 6 and 7 in the recycle sign on plastics. Store leftover food in ceramic bowls (covered with plates) or glass jars. Do not reheat in plastic. Slowly become more conscious of the plastics in your life and alternatives.
  16. Are you wired up? Check your electrodes around your home, mobile phone and computer use (See Healthy Living Tips).
  17. Are you sleeping well? Change to healthy rhythms in your day.
  18. Try alternative medicines for those little aches and pains.

2. Try to eliminate stress and over–reacting in life.

3. Love and pamper yourself: try baths, massage, oils.

4. Be in the moment, not in the past or future.

5. Be aware of your family patterns, so as not to repeat them.

6. Consider turning off junk/drama TV, and have a peaceful evening instead.

7. Try the sound of silence.

8. Have a couple dates once a week at home. Include bathing together, massaging each other, talking lovingly together.

  1. Check all home cleaning products and find alternatives that are environmentally friendly and non toxic.
  2. Check personal care items, make-up, shampoos/conditioners, deodorants, toothpastes, perfumes and find sodium laurel free alternatives.
  3. Think about everything you buy. What is it made from? What processing was involved? Who made it and under what conditions? How does this product affect the earth and other people’s lives?
